Christel

My name is Christel (69), born in Germany and for 35 years a permanent resident of South Africa.

The diagnosis with estrogen positive breast cancer in Oct. 2005 came as a total shock, and a lumpectomy followed by 30 sessions of radiation resulted in a complete change of my outlook on life.  However, through the help of the Breast Health Foundation I came in contact with a few lovely ladies (all fellow patients) and together, we vowed to fight the effects of breast cancer as good as we could, forming  “Bosom  Buddies”.

This Breast Cancer Support Group just celebrated its 4 birthday and is going strong. We now have 14 active and certified supporters, a total membership of well in excess of 200, organize regular public meetings with relevant speeches and presentations and enjoy great support by the public and major sponsors.

Despite the terrible impact of cancer I now firmly believe that without it I would never have met all the wonderful people and live such a rich and fulfilling life as at present.

As coordinator of the supporters and member of the Bosom Buddies committee I am always glad if I can help, assist and support cancer patients and their families.
